Time to relax and let yourself be loved; your “massage” starts…now. Lately I’ve been a bit more busy than usual, and so I’ve been missing out on some of my alone time with God, and I can see signs of this taking a toll on me. For one thing it has made me more jittery and insecure. For example, an acquaintance of mine got picked for an assignment, and I felt a bit envious thinking: Why didn’t I get it instead? Then I began to think about all the great things that I was trusting God to bring into my life and began to have thoughts such as: Will it ever happen?
Thankfully I was able to see these kinds of thoughts as warning signs that I needed to run to Daddy God, and get a dose of his love and perspective. It wasn’t long before he reminded me of a lesson he had taught me, through my older son’s PJ Masks toy.
It all began when I bought my second son, a Gekko character from the PJ Masks Kids TV show, for his birthday which was in October. Knowing that my older son also likes the show, I bought his favorite character from the show (Catboy) at the same time, planning to give it to him when his birthday came around the following month, in November.
So when Kid #1 saw Kid #2’s Gekko toy, he said: I want a Catboy; Mommy can I get one for my birthday? He said this not knowing that I had already bought one for him and it was already waiting for him, with his name on it, so to speak. I promised him that he would get one.
I felt that God was zeroing my attention on the lesson here, and was saying: What if Kid #1 were to get all upset about not having a Catboy right now, and got all worried over whether he would ever get one? Wouldn’t it be a shame for him to go on so, wasting all his energy, and missing out on having joy in the present moment, when the Catboy was already there waiting for him? Wouldn’t it be better if, knowing that one was already promised to him, he simply and calmly waited for the right time – his birthday – when he would receive the toy?
So here are some interesting comparisons between the PJ Masks scenario and my own life – and perhaps yours? 🙂
- PJ Masks scenario: Before Kid #1 had even seen Kid #2’s Gekko character and then thought to himself that he wanted a Catboy, I had already anticipated him wanting a Catboy, and had already put one aside for him.
My Life: Similarly, the things that I am trust God to bring into my life, he has already anticipated my wanting them, even before I asked, and already has a plan in place regarding how he will get them to me. Jeremiah 29:11(NIV) says: ‘…For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord. ‘They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.’
- PJ Masks scenario: Kid #1 asked me for the Catboy character and I told him he would get one, so now all he has to do is simply rest, and at the right time (his birthday), he will get it.
My Life: Similarly, regarding all the promises of God that I am believing to come to pass; all I need to do is to simply rest, knowing that he will bring them to pass, at the right time. Matthew 6:32-33(NLT) says: These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs.33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
- PJ Masks scenario: The reality from Kid #1’s perspective, is probably that at some point, Mommy’s going to go to the store and get him a Catboy c However the reality from my perspective, is that the Catboy character is already there – right in the house where he lives! He might as well start to imagine himself playing with it, because it is so close at hand.
My Life: The reality from my perspective, may seem as if the things I’m believing God for, are somewhere in the distant future, that I will receive some day. But the reality from God’s perspective, is that the these things are already mine and he already sees me possessing them. Therefore I need to get on board and see things from God’s perspective, and see myself already having them. After all, Mark 11:24 (NIV) says: Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
So that’s what a PJ Masks toy taught me about resting in God. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. Please share in the comments below.
