Our treat for you today is a Swedish Massage. Relax, as the soothing strokes ease your muscle tension. Breathe in deeply, taking in the scent of jojoba and apricot oils; then exhale, and relax.
Time to relax and let yourself be loved; your “massage” starts…now. A while ago, after taking some time out to really look at my past, and see how God had faithfully brought me through, I finally said to him: All right, I give up. I surrender to your love and goodness; I will stop waiting for the other shoe to drop.
You see, throughout the years, despite all of life’s challenging, I’ve had a relatively good life. However somehow, at the back of my mind, I was always waiting for the other shoe to drop. Meaning, when things were going well, I didn’t enjoy the moments as much as I could have, because I was too busy worrying that it might not last, and something bad might happen that will erase all the good stuff.
Have you ever found yourself doing this too?
I’ve discovered that this kind of thinking only keeps me from enjoying the present moment. I’ve also come to realize that this kind of thinking is not necessary; because I have a strong and loving God, who promises to take care of me.
In Matthew 10:29-31 (MSG) it says What’s the price of a pet canary? Some loose change, right? And God cares what happens to it even more than you do. He pays even greater attention to you, down to the last detail—even numbering the hairs on your head! So don’t be intimidated by all this bully talk. You’re worth more than a million canaries.
Also Psalm 23:6 (NIV) says Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life…. And Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV) assures us ‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’
So, I encourage you to take some time to soak in these and other similar Scriptures, and know that everything will be all right. Because you have a powerful God who also happens to be crazy about you, know that even if something unpleasant interrupts the good times, he is so awesome that he can work even the bad stuff out for your good. (Romans 8:28) I’m reminded of John Legend’s song, All of Me, that says “Even when I lose I’m winning.” Wow!
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. Please share in the comments below.
